How Often Should Your Local Business Post in 2026?

Oct 14, 2026·4 min read·By Boss Branding Agency

It's the question every business owner asks us first: "How many times a day should I be posting?" And the honest answer surprises people — probably less than you think, but more consistently than you're doing now.

The "post 3 times a day on every platform" advice you've heard is a recipe for burnout, and it's wrong for a local service business. You're not a media company. You're trying to stay top-of-mind for people in your city until they're ready to buy. Here's a framework that actually fits a real business.

The only number that matters: one you can keep

A business that posts 3 times a week for a year will crush one that posts daily for three weeks and then disappears. The algorithm rewards consistency, and so do customers. Momentum is everything — and nothing kills momentum like setting a pace you can't sustain.

So before you pick a number, pick one you can hit on your worst, busiest week. That's your real baseline.

A realistic starting point

For most local service businesses, here's where we'd start:

  • 3–4 short-form videos per week (Reels / TikTok / Shorts) — this is your discovery engine. It's what gets you in front of new people.
  • 2–3 Stories per day — low effort, behind-the-scenes, keeps you present for people who already follow you. These don't need to be produced; a quick phone clip is perfect.
  • 1 "anchor" post per week — a carousel, a before/after, a customer win. Something with a little more substance that shows what you do.

That's it. Notice there's no "post 5 times a day everywhere." Depth and consistency beat volume.

Quality vs. quantity (it's not a real trade-off)

One great Reel will outperform seven mediocre ones — and take less time than you'd spend forcing out the seven.

If you're choosing between posting more or posting better, choose better, almost every time. One strong piece of content has a long tail: it keeps getting served for weeks. Seven rushed posts just train the algorithm that your account isn't worth showing.

Batch it, don't bleed it

The secret to staying consistent isn't discipline — it's batching. Instead of scrambling for something to post every day, block two hours once a week and shoot 4–5 clips at once. Film them, hand them to an editor (or us), and schedule the week. Suddenly "post 4 times a week" is one task, not twenty.

The bottom line

Don't ask "how often should I post?" Ask "what can I keep up every single week without fail?" Start there, stay consistent for 90 days, and then add more once it's a habit. Showing up beats showing off.
